Nevertheless we urge you, brothers and sisters, to progress even more,
and to aspire to live a tranquil life,
to mind your own affairs,
and to work with your own hands,
as we instructed you.
Today’s Readings call us to be good stewards of our gifts & talents. The success of human efforts to earn their daily bread depends upon how well they have used their gifts and talents. Gifts and talents are an in-built quality, for some it is more and for some less. The gifts and talents are for one self and for others. When we use our talents for others, our talents and gifts multiply and reveal the mysteries of the Kingdom of God or if I interpret in Worldly manner the mind opens with a visionary mind and see things of this World in a different angle and they are successful and prosperous in their life. This kind of people contribute great to the Society and other people and leave behind a heritage or memory of their unselfish life on this earth. The selfish people who live for themselves and do not care for other least brothers and sisters who are not so blessed with many gifts and talents are like the servant in the parable who dug his talent in the fear of losing and insecurity. These kinds of people remain poor throughout their life and die in the poverty of love. All people of this World are Children of God and our brothers and sisters, it is our primary duty to reach out and share our blessings and talents for these brothers of our own, if we do not do this, we are not children of God but of Evil.
If we offer our hard work to the redemptive Work of Salvation, we become part of the redemptive work and become disciples of Christ by offering our daily crosses of our Work to the Cross of Christ. This kind of quiet and sacrificial lived life brings great joy to Christ When he evaluates our life every day of our life and gives us that peace and satisfaction of our eternal rest. This kind of peace contend a person despite of hardship of hunger or thirst, persecutions or injustice and puts his hope on his Master. When we work in our own hands and not become a burden to others, we fulfil our duty or mission on this earth but if we get involved in manipulation of our Work by corruption, injustice, unfairness, laziness we steal other blessings or talents and become a nuisance indulging in so many unwanted affairs of this World which take us away from the Kingdom of God and each other. These kinds of people though they think successful, their main motive is to loot and plunder for their selfish desires but loose total eternal peace and make mess of their life. These kinds of people are like that useless servant who was thrown outside in the dark place of unhappiness and pride. These kinds of people are Wicked and Evil who do not care for others and ready to kill and destroy others.
I met a successful man who was wealthy and successful but he had his other brothers who were struggling very badly in their life. When I asked him why you are not helping your own brothers? He said I have gone through great difficulty and struggle in my life and I am successful by my own efforts and I want them to do the same. I was reasoning his logic for a while and came to know that Pride of his own success was driving his life and not the gratitude to the talents and blessings he has received from God. His Brothers were not blessed with the same kind of talents and they were struggling. I see in many families, the eldest brother or sister taking the good stewardship of the family and helping their siblings with their success like if they start Business, involving others in the family business or if they go abroad for a better living, helping the other family members with a sponsorship of Work or Visa or guidance.
Today God is reminding us through these readings our life towards our own brothers and sisters and towards our least neighbours. Christians are giving people and Working people to build our own family like Joseph and Mary and Jesus together involved in the trade of Carpentry and lived their quiet life of love and service and shared their own Son for the Salvation of the Whole World.
