Today’s Readings :
They traveled through the Phrygian and Galatian territory
because they had been prevented by the Holy Spirit
from preaching the message in the province of Asia.
When they came to Mysia, they tried to go on into Bithynia,
but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them,
so they crossed through Mysia and came down to Troas.
During the night Paul had a vision.
A Macedonian stood before him and implored him with these words,
“Come over to Macedonia and help us.”
When he had seen the vision,
we sought passage to Macedonia at once,
concluding that God had called us to proclaim the Good News to them.
We read in the first reading , Paul being prevented and redirected to some other territory to spread the Gospel in a Vision by the Holy spirit. The Spirit of Jesus leads Paul and Timothy at every stage of their mission work. We have seen many Saints have been prevented by their Superiors or the Church from carrying on the mission. The Holy Spirit works through the Church in today’s World. The vow of obedience in the Religious order is more important than all the other vows in the Religious order , I have seen the Superiors tolerating the subordinates deviating the vow of Poverty and Chastity but not the vow of obedience. There were ordained priests asked to leave the Priesthood when they deviate the vow of obedience. Satan also has a ministry with the same power of the Spirit which was given to him by God but he does not use this power to show Obedience to God and thus this same power of God transforms into an evil power when it is not used in obedience.
Disobeying the Authorities or not listening to the Holy spirit is like going against the plan of God in our life and God himself. When we disobey the spirit of God , we step in to no man’s land and we are the Masters of that territory and there is no grace or Spirit of God working in that area. This kind of missions are self spirited or controlled by our own ego and intelligence. We often manipulate the Word of God to prove ourselves right and misinterpret the Word of God in our life for our acceptance in the Worldly standards. In families, Holy Spirit talks through our own spouses and elders in the family . In the Bible the Spirit of God warned Pilate through his Wife for not getting involved in judging Jesus but Pilate relied on his intelligence and power and not the truth. For Children in their families it is their parents who are the Authority. When Children come for counseling , we always ask their obedience level to their parents.
The Gospel of today clearly tells us that the World hated our model and King Jesus Christ and the same World must hate us and persecute us when we follow him , if we are not persecuted or hated but honored with all Worldly honors then there is something wrong in our mission. We can not twist the Word over here because if we look at Jesus life , Jesus was challenged by every Authority in Israel and all his Disciples and early Christians were killed for the Proclamation. Do we proclaim the truth the Word of God as it is or we compromise the truth and adjust it as per the Worldly standards. The Homilies and Preaching has been prepared in such a way with many puns and jokes so that people may applause their speech , and not transformation of hearts. Theologians write the Thesis for their Credits with a structural Essay to gain the P.h.d , Doctorate and the main message of the Cross is completely missing in the documents.
Today’s Gospel talks about the Be attitudes of Christ the Sermon on the Mount , these Be attitudes reflect the love of God, Ten Commandments, Gospel , the Spirit of Jesus and the Holy spirit . All our missions, Families, Priesthood, Communities must reflect the Beatitudes otherwise all our ministries become any other family or organisation or ministry of the World and not a Christian. Let us reflect upon these Eight Be attitudes of Jesus and tally our life with these Beatitudes , if all Be attitudes tally with our attitudes then we live in the kingdom of God on this Earth otherwise it is time to put our attitude in to the Be attitudes of Jesus.
THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
